Elzie Alford Jr. Partners with Helix Legal Academy to Inspire the Next Generation

Baton Rouge, LA — Long before launching his campaign for 19th Judicial District Court Judge, Elzie Alford Jr. was already investing in the next generation of leaders. A few years ago, Alford partnered with Helix Legal Academy, Baton Rouge’s pioneering school dedicated to exposing students to careers in law and public service.

At the academy, Alford spoke with students about his journey — from earning scholarships at LSU and Southern University Law Center, to serving as an Army JAG Officer, to working as Clerk of Court. He emphasized that success isn’t just about becoming an attorney or a judge, but about developing the confidence and character to pursue any path.

“Exposure changes everything,” Alford told the students. “When young people can see themselves in roles of leadership and service, it expands what they believe is possible.”

Helix Legal Academy has made it its mission to open doors for Baton Rouge youth, showing that legal education isn’t only about producing future attorneys, but also about building informed citizens who understand justice and civic responsibility.

Teachers and students praised Alford for his down-to-earth approach and ability to connect with young people. His visit underscored the academy’s belief that mentorship and real-world engagement are critical to shaping tomorrow’s leaders.

Today, as Alford campaigns for Judge, he continues to highlight the importance of mentorship and education in strengthening the community. His work with Helix is just one example of how he has consistently used his platform to uplift young people and remind them that their future is limitless.
